31 - Why We Give Thanks, 2 Psalms to Center Us, & 3 Ways to Practice Gratitude
Tuesday Nov 23, 2021
Tuesday Nov 23, 2021
Since this week is Thanksgiving, I thought we'd chat a bit about why we give thanks. We'll also go through two different Psalms, and conclude with 3 practical applications for the practice of gratitude that you can use right away. If you want even more, look out for this week's application episode, which is devoted entirely to prayers of thanksgiving.
In this season, don't forget that the real history of Thanksgiving has largely been erased by colonizers. Check out this article by the Smithsonian for more of the truth about this holiday.

Gender roles. The topic that seems to haunt me. I've been struggling with whether gender roles in the home and church are Biblical since college (at least...maybe even a bit in high school). The topic just keeps coming up for me and I felt a few months ago that it was time to go all in and figure it out, if it can be figured out. In this process I've chatted with my friends and family to learn more about their opinions and see what they think of all the research I've been doing. It's been enlightening and several friends have asked for updates on what I'm learning. So here's part 1, a long-winded explanation of my formative thoughts on Christian gender roles.
Please let me know if there's a related topic you want me to cover or research at podcasterkatherine@gmail.com.
Time Stamps:
- 6:00 - Why I care about gender roles
- 8:00 - Definitions (complementarian, egalitarian, etc.)
- 12:15 - What I've read so far
- 16:00 - 5 Things I have learned so far

27 - An Empathetic Look at Eve, the First Mother (Women of the Bible Series)
Wednesday Oct 27, 2021
Wednesday Oct 27, 2021
Let's talk about Eve! She's often talked about as the first sinner, the beginning of the Fall for humankind. And, yes, she sinned. I agree. And the consequences have been severe for all of humankind. But also, she was a human, a real person, the first woman. The first mother. Let's look beyond the sinner and see Eve as a whole person. Let's take an empathetic look at the first human giver of life.
A special thanks to Margret Mowczko, whose work on the word "helper" in reference to Eve informed this episode. You can learn more about her work on this topic here.
Key Bible Verses: Genesis 1-4, Romans 3:22-24, Psalm 33:20
